Biking in Paris

If you’re ever in Paris, even for a day, biking through the Parisian streets should be on your to-do list.
It took me a while to do it but every time someone comes to Paris now, I make them hop on a bike and we go exploring.
It’s quicker than walking and instead of being underground using the metro, you get to see Paris quicker than usual AND you get to enjoy the sights that Paris is so known for.

Paris has bike rentals all over the city called Velib and they have a useful phone app to know how many bikes are available at each station to pick up and drop off.  But if you don’t want to use your phone, no worries, the bike rental stations are everywhere.

All you need is basic bike riding knowledge and a credit card or carte bleu to reserve.
Just make sure you don’t damage the bike or it’s a 150 euro charge to your card but it’s a cheap way to get around Paris all the while seeing it.

A bit of help before you go :

  • Before taking a bike, I always check the tires, the chain and the seat.
  • Before taking the bike out, press the button beside the bike and pull hard.
  • When putting the bike back, make sure you hear the beep and light will turn green.
  • Always keep your ticket until the end.
  • If you have any problems, just call from the machine and they will help you.
    • I’ve used it before and they walk you through everything!
  • It’s fairly safe to ride bikes in Paris, just stick to the sides and the bike lanes.
